Small Commercial Plumbing in Middlesex County, MA

Booked Around Your Hours, Not Ours

Restaurant kitchens, offices and small retail across Middlesex County and the Merrimack Valley, out of North Billerica. Opus does service and repair on the commercial side, scheduled before you open or after you close where a shutdown would cost you a day’s trade. It’s the same licence and the same flat written price as the plumbing services we run for homeowners. If something is running right now, that’s 24/7 emergency plumbing.

What We Cover on the Commercial Side

Restaurant, Office and Retail Plumbing

Five kinds of work make up almost all of it.

Drains and waste lines.

Kitchen drains, floor drains, restroom lines and the interior waste runs that back up at the worst hour of the week.

Water heaters.

Repair and replacement, sized for what the business actually draws rather than what fitted last time.

Fixtures and restrooms.

Flushometer valves, sensor faucets, commercial sinks, mop sinks and the hardware that takes more abuse in a month than a home fixture takes in a year.

Leaks and pipe repair.

Tracing and fixing supply leaks inside the building, before they reach stock, equipment or a downstairs tenant.

Gas lines for kitchen equipment.

New line for a range, fryer or combi oven, plus repairs and leak checks on what’s already there, all under the same licence.

What this isn't is a construction outfit.

Opus takes service and repair calls on existing premises. Nobody here is bidding your fit-out.

A Shutdown Costs More Than the Repair

Scheduling Around Your Hours

In a house, a plumbing problem is inconvenient. In a kitchen it’s a closed kitchen, and the repair bill is usually the smallest number in the day.

So the scheduling matters more than it does residentially.

Early morning before service, late evening after close, or a quiet weekday afternoon in a retail unit. Tell us when the room is empty and we’ll work to that rather than to a nine-to-five slot that costs you covers.

You still get one flat price in writing first.

The same as any other job. No hourly clock running while a manager hovers, and no after-hours premium bolted on because you asked us to come at six in the morning.

For anything already running or backing up, the phone is answered around the clock and commercial calls get the same urgency as a flooded basement.

Kitchens Break Differently

Commercial Drain Cleaning and Grease

A commercial kitchen drain doesn’t clog the way a domestic one does. It narrows.

Grease goes down warm, cools in the horizontal run and lines the pipe, and it keeps doing it every service. By the time anything backs up, the line has been closing for months. Which is why a kitchen that gets cleared reactively gets cleared again, and a kitchen on a schedule mostly doesn’t.

We cable and camera interior lines.

The same as on the residential side, and commercial drain cleaning covers how that works in more detail. What we don’t do is hydro jetting, and we’d rather say that than sell you the tool we happen to own.

Grease traps and interceptors are their own thing.

Pumping and disposal is licensed hauling work, done by a company set up for it. We’ll work around yours and tell you when the trap is the problem rather than the line, but emptying it isn’t our job.

Need a Backflow Preventer Installed?

Backflow Installation, and Who Tests It

This one has two halves and most plumbers don’t separate them clearly.

Installation is work we do.

A backflow preventer stops water in your building being drawn back into the public supply, and Massachusetts requires them on plenty of commercial setups: kitchen equipment, boiler feeds, irrigation, and anything else that could contaminate a potable line.

Annual testing and certification is not.

In Massachusetts those tests have to be done by a separately certified backflow tester, and Opus doesn’t hold that certification. So we can put the device in correctly, and you will need somebody else once a year to test it and file the paperwork.
Saying that out loud costs us the follow-on work. It’s also the sort of thing a business owner finds out about at an inspection, which is a worse moment to hear it.

The Water Heater in a Kitchen Isn't a Big House Water Heater

Commercial Water Heaters

Capacity is the number people ask about. Recovery is usually the one that matters.

A restaurant doesn’t use hot water evenly, it uses it in bursts, and the question is how fast the heater refills between them rather than how much it holds. A three-compartment sink, a dishwasher at sanitising temperature and a handwash station all calling at once will find the limit of a unit that looked adequate on paper.

Temperature requirements are stricter too, and the equipment has to hold them reliably rather than most of the time. Sizing off the previous unit repeats whatever was wrong with it, so we work from what the business actually draws.

Repair, replacement and sizing all sit with us on the commercial side. Gas and electric only, as everywhere else in this company. No oil.

Where We Stop

Work We Don't Take On

Worth knowing before you call rather than after.

New construction and rough-ins.

We don’t bid fit-outs or new builds. Service and repair on premises already operating is the work.

Industrial, institutional and hospital.

Different scale, different requirements, different contractor.

Anything outside the building.

Once a pipe passes the foundation it needs a municipal drain layer’s licence, issued town by town, which we don’t hold. No sewer laterals, no water service lines, no trenching.

Backflow testing and certification.

Installation yes, annual testing no, for the reason above.

Everything else on this list runs across the fourteen towns on our service areas, with Woburn, Burlington and Chelmsford carrying most of the commercial work by some distance.

The Call-It-Straight Standard

We Do Only the Work You Approved

Most people brace for the tech who finds four more things wrong and leans on them to fix all of it, and a business is an easier target for that than a house, because the cost of being closed makes anything sound urgent. We tell you what we see and what it costs if it fails, then do only what you approved. If a second problem can wait until after the weekend rush, we’ll say so rather than use the kitchen being shut as leverage. Ricky said this himself, before anybody suggested it as a selling point: point out the problem and the risk, ask what you want to do, and attend to what you were called for.

Questions Billerica Homeowners Ask Us

“Clear answers. One written price. You decide before we start.”

Owner & Master Plumber

Can you come outside our opening hours?
Yes, and it’s usually the sensible way to do it. Early morning before service or late evening after close, whatever suits the room being empty. There’s no after-hours premium added for it, because the price is quoted on the job rather than the clock.
Installation yes. Annual testing and certification no, because that requires a separately certified tester in Massachusetts and we don’t hold that certification. We’ll fit the device properly and tell you plainly that you’ll need somebody else to test it each year.
No. Opus does service and repair on premises that are already operating. New builds and rough-ins are a different kind of contractor with a different kind of schedule, and we’d be the wrong choice for it.
Because grease narrows the line rather than blocking it outright, that’s why punching a hole through restores flow while leaving the lining in place. It closes up again over the following weeks. Clearing it back to the pipe wall, and then on a schedule, is what actually changes the pattern.
No. Pumping and disposal is licensed hauling work and needs a company set up for it. We’ll work around the trap, and tell you when it’s the trap causing your problem rather than the line, but emptying it isn’t something we do.

The Towns We Cover Across Middlesex County

Opus runs out of North Billerica and covers roughly a 20-mile radius, from the older neighborhoods of Woburn and Winchester to the affluent, boiler-heavy homes in Concord, Carlisle, and Lincoln. If your home is within about 20 miles, we most likely cover you.

Tips for Keeping Your Water Hot and Your Basement Dry

It’s about to get cold

Which pipes freeze first, what to do in October so they don’t, and what to do at two in the morning if one already has. Frozen and burst pipes  covers all of it.

You think something’s leaking

Stains, a meter still ticking with every tap shut off, a warm patch of floor. Leak detection finds where the water is actually coming from before anybody opens a wall.

Your boiler needs looking at

How often hot water and steam systems want servicing, what the annual visit includes, and which noises are worth calling about. Boiler service and repair  answers all three.
